- ROUTINE OR CHOREOGRAPHY REQUIRED
- Finals for the Solo category will be held at the Opening Party of the Toronto Salsa Festival on Thursday March 11, 2010
- Contestants will perform on the Toronto Salsa Festival Stage
- All contestants must check by 6:00pm sharp and submit their music. Draw will determine order of competition.
- Contestants will perform a choreographed showcase of their choice that must be between 1:45-2:00 minutes in duration
- Contestant must provide music in advance to DJ in a USB key or single track CD
- Song chosen for the finals must be 75% salsa
- Costumes may contribute to the overall presentation score. However the use of regular street clothes will result in points deductions
- There will be a panel of 4-6 local and international judges. All of whom have several years of experience teaching, performing and/or competing in Salsa

The winners of the Solo Salsa Competition Category of the 2010 Toronto Salsa Festival will win:

PRELIMINARIES 1 TORONTO - Saturday February 6, 2010
The Dovercourt House
- NO ROUTINE OR CHOREOGRAPHY REQUIRED
- 9pm sharp Check-in, receive contestant number
- Contest will begin approximately 11:30pm
- Each Contestant will dance for 2 minutes to a song selected by DJ but of a type requested by contestant. (i.e Drums or Romantic or Jazzy, etc)
- Contestants will be judged by four judges
- Every contestant must register to enter the competition online or at the door prior to competing. Registration fee $25
- Costumes are not required
- 6 contestants will be chosen to advance to finals
- There is no placement structure in the preliminaries round. Only qualifying competitors advancing to finals will be announced

ADDITIONAL RULES & TIPS FOR SOLO COMPETITORS
- No props. (ie canes, chairs, etc)
- Shines or separation from partner must not exceed 30 seconds
Points Deductions:
- Deviation from min and max routine time (5 points)
- Music (non-Salsa) (5 points for every 30 seconds of music)
- No points awarded for Modern Dance
- Use of props (5 points per prop)
Dancers will be judged in the following categories:
- Timing
- Musicality
- Technique/Difficulty
- Connection/synchronization
- Showmanship
- Originality
